Over 240 young people descended on West Park this week for Goole Youth Action’s (GYA) free Youth Festival.
The event saw a record number of young people, aged between 7-14, attend on Tuesday, August 24, to enjoy the wide range of activities on offer. Youngsters were able to have a go on the rodeo bull, assault course and climbing wall, while getting their face painted or trying their luck on the penalty shoot out. There were also a number of live music and dance performances from rapper Cameo Brooks, up and coming band The Estates and dancers from Butterfly Dance Studios.
Phil Jackson, GYA development coordinator said: “We asked young people at the beginning of the summer holidays the type of activities they would like to do and today is the result. “Many young people told me on how great it was to do fun activities and see their friends.” Representatives from a number of local organisations including East Riding of Yorkshire’s Young Healthwatch, Conifer House and Revive Youth Club were also in attendance to speak to young people about what matters to them. Rosie Willis, youth worker from East Riding of Yorkshire’s Young Healthwatch said: “We are aiming to get an idea of what matters to young people in Goole in the area of health and social care. By finding out what matters most we can put this information into a report and then pass it on to the people who can make these changes.”
The event was supervised by ERYC’s Health aand Wellbeing Service and was supported by Youth and Family Support, Moorlands Community Charity, Trinity Youth project, Revive Youth Club, Goole Town Council, HealthWatch and Conifer House. It was also made possible by funding from the Humberside Police Crime Commissioner’s Crime Reduction Fund, and East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Active Towns Grant and Holiday Activity Fund (HAF). Phil Jackson added: “We look forward to seeing young people at our next free Youth Festival on Tuesday, August 31 at South Park, Old Goole between 1-4pm.”
